The World Bank reports that 70% of 10-year-olds in low- and middle-income countries cannot understand simple text. At Pratham, we witness this challenge firsthand. Our community-centered efforts support children at every stage of learning in India and beyond. Using our award-winning “Teaching at the Right Level” (TaRL) methodology, we help children develop foundational skills quickly and effectively—all at a low cost.

India is home to a fifth of the world’s youth, and according to a 2021 World Bank report, nearly half of India’s youth lack the essential skills for employment. Pratham bridges this gap by equipping youth with employable skills, empowering them to take their first steps toward independence. By promoting economic self-sufficiency through training and job placement, we focus on turning potential into opportunity.

Every girl and woman deserves the opportunity to learn, earn, and create the life she imagines. Yet, for too many, these possibilities are out of reach. In underserved communities across India, poverty, social conventions, and limited resources are preventing girls from having equal access to learning. Pratham’s Second Chance program gives girls and women an opportunity to complete their secondary education in a supportive environment.
